Energy Sector Leads S&P 500's Declines

Tumbling oil prices dragged down the S&P 500’s energy sector in Friday trading. The broad-market index’s energy sector fell 5.8%, far outpacing declines in other sectors.

Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, fell 5% to trade at $113.76 a barrel. Its U.S. equivalent, West Texas Intermediate, lost 5.7% to $108.62 a barrel.

Oil prices had been rising for much of the past month, buoyed by supply concerns.
