Dow jumps nearly 300 points on gains in shares of Chevron, Caterpillar

Shares of Chevron and Caterpillar are trading higher Friday afternoon, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory. Shares of Chevron CVX, +8.90% and Caterpillar CAT, +5.54% have contributed about 50% of the index’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, +0.97% was most recently trading 292 points higher (0.9%). Chevron’s shares are up $13.06 (8.7%) while those of Caterpillar are up $10.89, or 5.8%, combining for a roughly 158-point boost for the Dow. Also contributing significantly to the gain are Apple Inc. AAPL, +3.28%, Dow Inc. DOW, +1.74%, and 3M MMM, +2.04%. A $1 move in any of the benchmark’s 30 components results in a 6.59-point swing.
