There’s nothing wrong with basic, set-it-and-forget-it approaches in investing. Since the birth of the current bull market on Oct. 12, 2022, the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF ( VOO +1.22%), about as basic as it gets with exchange-traded funds (ETFs), returned 96.8% through Oct. 23. That’s nothing to scoff at.
