There are a lot of ways to tell that spring is in the air, whether it’s birds singing, flowers blooming, or lawnmowers humming in the distance. One of the best ways to know that the season has arrived, though, is hearing the legendary voice of Jim Nantz on your airwaves.
Whether it’s at the annual NCAA Tournament in the end of March, or a few weeks later at Augusta for The Masters Tournament, Nantz has become as synonymous with spring as MLB Opening Day for sports fans.
As we get ready for The Masters to tee off in just a couple of weeks’ time, Nantz shared a major announcement about his future with the prestigious golf tournament.

According to Front Office Sports, Nantz has announced his retirement plans for The Masters. No need to fret, golf fans; said retirement isn’t coming any time soon. Instead, Nantz is giving everyone a fair warning that in a decade — 2036, to be exact — he plans to call his final Masters Tournament.

Why 2036? It will be his 51st time calling The Masters, and it will be the 100th playing of the major tournament.
Talk about walking off into the sunset on top.
It’s hard to imagine who will be playing in the 2036 Masters, and which players will be at the top of the sport. It’s fair to think that veteran players like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will be retired by then, but the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Speith, Scottie Scheffler, and Jon Rahm will all likely be serving as the old guard.
Then there is the question of who the young stars of the game will be at that time. Rather than guys like Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala, and Akshay Bhatia ushering the new generation, we will have a handful of young golfers leading a new charge.

And calling all of the action, one final time, will be Nantz. When it’s over, it will be tough to come to grips with, but at least we have a decade to start the coping process.
