GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -During the new administration, the stock market has seen highs and lows. According to CNN, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at fresh record highs on July 3.

Larry Jones, an Investment Adviser, said the surge in the market led to positive gains for those who were already invested.

“It should benefit them in terms of the result of good performance and the increased value in their portfolio, whether that be in a 401K or whether that be you know personal investments or what have you,” said Jones.

However, Jones said the changes in the market probably wouldn’t directly affect those who hadn’t invested.

“They’re going to be more affected with how much it costs to go to the grocery store or take a trip or buy gas at the filling station,” said Jones.

As for those who are looking to invest, Jones said it’s best to invest when the market is down, not up. He also said it’s good to keep a diversified portfolio and not take too many risks. He also said it’s important to focus on the future.

“Somebody that’s younger should look at this as an opportunity to have their money invested and continue to put money into the market and for the next 30, 40, 50 years, as opposed to trying to get rich fast,” said Jones.

Jones said things like tariffs could cause some uncertainty in the market, but he has a positive outlook on the economy in the long term.
